GEAR LIST

This is the basics so interpret as you wish - talk to anyone that's hiked before and they'll tell you less is more.
Leave your Egyptian cotton sheets, boom box and banana lounge at home

Hiking pack

  • A pack to put it all in (duh)

  • Rain cover for pack &/or waterproof liner (dead dog bags work well, I've had mine for 6 years now and still no holes). 

Sleeping gear

  • Tent 

  • Sleeping bag

  • Sleeping mat

  • Pillow (I use a stuff sack full of clothes with my polar fleece over the top, double function, less weight, perfect!)

Cooking/eating gear

  • Camping stove and fuel

  • Associated pots/pans & cutlery

  • 5 or 6 Litre water bladder

  • Water bottles

  • Food

  • Snacks

Survival & sanitation

  •  Water proof bags

  • Purification tablets

  • Matches

  • Knife

  • Headlamp and spare batteries

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug repellent

  • Anti-bacterial evaporative liquid

  • Toothbrush & paste

  • Small spade - "Doug"

  • Loo paper (we use "who gives a crap" because it is awesome. Open another tab & Google it right this second, I dare ya!)

  • Tarp

  • Small square of foam for sitting

Clothing & footwear

  • Hiking boots

  • Good thick socks

  • Appropriate clothing

  • Sunglasses

  • Hat

  • Thermal top & bottom

  • Fleecy or warm top

  • Rain jacket/outer shell

  • Rain pants (overprints)

  • Gaiters
